The Best Family Day Activities for Calgarians

Table of contents

Family Day is just around the corner, and with it comes a bunch of fun activities for Calgarians to indulge in. In an attempt to promote local culture, the provincial government has been encouraging citizens to get engaged in annual festivities, going as far as offering free admission to acclaimed cultural and historic sites across Alberta (such as the always amazing Royal Tyrrell Museum). In the spirit of local culture and entertainment, here are some Calgary-based family day activities and events we believe you should absolutely check out:

    Heritage Park

Heritage Park is doubling down on its Family Day activities this year, with many unique offerings available. The centerpiece, known as Family Quest, will be a series of activities held throughout Heritage Park which will include challenges like tricycle races, crafts, scavenger hunts, and various interactive games! Furthermore, Heritage Park’s regular offerings will also be open, such as the notorious ghost tours and fascinating Big Rock brewery workshops.[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVH30kqCFNQ[/embed]

    Calgary Zoo

The Calgary Zoo always makes for an entertaining day out with the family. With the current warm weather and return of the daily penguin walks, the Zoo is one of the hottest family getaways in the city (and it’s also relatively affordable).[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrjaG_Fweqw[/embed]

    GLOW Downtown Winter Light Festival

As the first rendition of this event in Calgary, the GLOW Downtown Winter Light Festival will feature over 12 one-of-a-kind interactive light installations, coupled with other luminescent exhibits from artists both local and foreign. Set to open daily at 6:30 PM, the performances will go on up until about 11:00 PM, and be located at various spots across the downtown core.
