Labour Day has a great significance for all working people. As we are approaching the last long weekend of the summer holidays. It is a day to recognize the hard work and dedication of the labour class. It is also a day to celebrate the social and economic achievements of the working class. It is a day of solidarity and unity. Almost everyone plans for a perfect outing before we say goodbye to summer and welcome fall. Every season has its fun-filled activities and bountiful views which mesmerize you to plan outings or visit different places. Let’s see what’s happening this Labour Day:

Origin and History of Labour Day

Labour Day was first celebrated in 1840. Every year the first Monday of September is celebrated as Labour Day. This year Labour Day falls on September 2.

The Toronto Typographical Union (TTU) called for a 9-hour workday from the city's publishers, seeking to replace the existing 12-hour, 6-day workweek. When the employers declined this request, the printers went on strike on March 25, 1872. A rally on April 15, 1872, drew 10,000 supporters to Queen's Park, a significant turnout considering Toronto's population at the time was only 50,000. In response, Globe publisher George Brown took immediate legal action, leading to the arrest of the strike committee on charges of criminal conspiracy, as union activities were still prohibited under Canadian law.

    Labour Day in Canada 2024

As families face ongoing challenges due to the affordability crisis in Canada, workers nationwide are uniting to confront corporate greed and urge politicians to prioritize the needs of people over profits. This Labour Day, Canada's unions are introducing "Workers Together: For a Better Deal" to empower workers and amplify their voices. The campaign highlights the need to protect workers' rights, create good jobs, and ensure fair wages. It is a call to action for Canadians to come together to fight for a better tomorrow.

    To Sum Up

Appreciate workers every day, without them the smooth functioning of companies and organizations would not be possible. The boss can direct things, but the workers have to do and make it possible by letting the company grow. It’s a day to appreciate the workers and motivate them to keep doing their best. The celebrations of this day started 100 years ago and still, we celebrate this day in different ways. Never forget, that workers are the backbone of every industry, yet many are still struggling, so appreciate them, pay them appropriately and motivate them to work with more zeal.

Apart from this, those who are planning to go out this perfect last summer weekend then all the aforementioned events can excite you. You can attend any according to your choice.
