    Over some time, the number of Educational Assistants working in Alberta schools has increased dramatically. Educational Assistants (EA), also known as Teaching Assistants (TA) play a vital role in classrooms working alongside teachers in elementary, secondary, post-secondary and even adult education settings. Like most careers, becoming an EA offers its own unique rewards and involves completing an Education Assistant Diploma.     Meaningful Work

    As an EA, your duties will vary depending on the type of school and level of education you are working with. Regardless, you will help change lives of whomever you interact with because they will benefit from your guidance – and that support can greatly impact their academic achievement which then affects their confidence and happiness.

    Stepping Stone

    Although most are comfortable with just becoming an EA, many people take advantage of becoming an EA so that they can further develop their skills and gain the experience needed to become a qualified teacher. Some universities will grant recognition of prior learning for documented teaching assistant experience. The Students - EA`s usually work with the same students every day for the year. That close bond that`s developed between the educator and the student is rewarding enough. Regardless of your students’ age, seeing them grow academically and achieving their goals is wonderful thing to experience as an educator.

    According to Alis Alberta, the average wage of an elementary and secondary school EA is $22.19 an hour making it $32,640.00 a year. An EA would work an average of 29.4 hours a week.
